Wide river streams help to sculpt a city, inject vitality to our lives, and deeply affect the urban fabric. Then what role shall a small and narrow canal play? Canals that had once nurtured the land have become out of place in a modernized metropolis, and today, most of them have turned into closed channels or have been filled and abolished. Canals have gradually faded out from residents’ memories. And when the government intends to remediate a canal, how should residents and architecture along the banks adjust their attitudes to respond to the change?
After having gone through several remediations, canals are thoroughly altered in and out until the originally flowing water sources are all covered by new looks. Canals have gradually become purely for landscaping in a city, so exactly what is the actual interpretation we shall bestow upon a canal in the context of a modern metropolis?
