Facilities at the factory have halted its operation; its ceilings have begun to peel off; its structure has begun to decay. The deserted ruins have allowed the plants to occupy – appearance of the architecture has changed as time passes. What will become of the ruins?
Following the torrent of time, the small town of Checheng has gone through numerous highs and lows, along with countless industrial transformations. With an area of 4 hectares, Zhen Chang Logging and Plywood Factory was closed down due to industrial transformation. As time goes by, its architecture has also been modified to meet the needs of the modern day.
Basing our perspective on the “Concept of the Nine Thoughts” (the nine processes where a human’s dead body merges with nature), we are reevaluating the abolished factory with a new mindset and implementing corresponding measures. We are hoping that through our designs, we will be able to reinitiate conversations amongst architecture, nature, history, and users.
